- This week, we have learnt how to write five Chinese characters.
- All Chinese characters are built up from strokes. There are around more than 30 types of strokes altogether, some of which are compound strokes made from basic strokes.
- Traditionally, strokes are classified into 8 basic forms, which are 点, 横, 竖, 撇, 捺, 提, 钩, 弯.
- While the compound strokes comprise more than one movement of the writing instrument, and many of these have no agreed-upon name.

Hi Varinder Pal Singh,
It depends. If you want to write Chinese character using computer, you have to learn Pinyin. You can try this:

Hi Min Min!
I’ve downloaded the hanyu pinyin e-book and want to start learning. I have an adobe XI version so I reckon it should play the audios just fine, but I have issues as it cannot play the audios. Every time I click the audio button, a warning window pops up and says that the required decoder is not installed in the system. I’ve been trying to search high and low for solutions, but it still won’t play.
Please help?
Thank you =)
Hi Elina,
Could you try to Enable Enhanced Security:
Edit > Preferences > Security(Enhanced) :
1. Check the Enable Enhanced Security
2. Add the Pinyin pdf File to Privileged Locations
Edit > Preferences > Trust Manager
1. Check Allow opening of non-PDF file …. application.
Edit > Preferences > Multimedia (Legacy)
Player options : try different options to see if it can play the sound.
I am using MP3 as the audio format since the file size is much smaller. However, due to security reasons, Adobe Acrobat X and above had blocked the legacy (mp3) multimedia files.
Alternatively, you can try Foxit Reader.

Please let me know if you could play the audios. Thanks.
Thx Min Min,
I’ve tired all that you’ve mentioned on Adobe, but the audio still does not play. So I’ve downloaded the alternative Foxit Reader instead, and it works! Thank you so much! =)
