    1. Hi LULANKE,
Sorry. I have moved your comment to this post.
You are right. Most of the time, 阿 is used to translate foreign language which has the sound “a”.

  2. Hello Minmin,

    Thank you for your explenation.
I have been taught that tاere is a very important grammar rule in Chinese. It concerns words like chīfàn, jiéhūn and jiànmiànThese are combinations of a
verb with its object and are called líhécí. When I saw
shùmù , I thought that this also was a liheci, shu being the verb and mu being its object, but then shùmù is a noun! So I must be mistaken …

Thanks again your website is great and very helpful and so is your English…

    你好敏敏,

    吃饭, 结婚, 见面都是”离合词”对不对,
    第一个首词是动词第二首是词名字
    饭是吃的宾语,婚是结的宾语,等…
    看到树木在`十年树木,百年树人`
    我觉得树木也是一首离合词木是树的
    宾语,但是树木是一首名字! 对不对?

    万事如意

    1. Hi Roland,
树木 is normally used as noun, which is a general term for trees.
      However, in this idiom:
      “十年树木,百年树人。”
the ” 树 ” acts as a verb. I think this is the only idiom that uses ” 树 ” as verb.
